New York University DC

The building façade at NYU in Washington D.C. showcases 128 precision-fabricated “K” shaped fins of 9/16” low-iron, laminated glass printed with a custom white pixilated pattern using Alice® direct-to-glass printing technology to achieve a controlled level of opacity. Designed with sustainability in mind, the glass fins provide shade for the interior spaces. The laminated glass fins and other thoughtful design elements helped NYU achieve LEED Gold Certification. The glass configuration for the "K" shaped fins is 9/16” OA thick low iron tempered and laminated glass with a custom white pixelated design applied to surface #2 using GGI's Alice® direct-to-glass printing. The ceramic frit ink combined with the SentryGlas® ionoplast interlayer provides the durability needed for this exterior decorative glass application.
Both stunning and functional, the custom fabricated glass fins are installed from the 4th through 9th floors of the 75,000 SF academic center perpendicular to the curtain wall. This architectural design element has LED lighting along the back edge to make the building  come to life with undulating waves of glowing light.
